Technical Specialist – IPC/WASH
Contract Duration: Six months. Immediate Start.
Location: Accra
Overview
Jhpiego is seeking a Technical Specialist – IPC/WASH to provide technical guidance and support for several newly awarded COVID-19 projects. In Ghana, Jhpiego will support the Government of Ghana (GOG) to control and mitigate the spread of the novel coronavirus. A significant area of focus for our work is accelerating and strengthening the technical and operational capacity of local healthcare workers to reduce the spread of infection, provide quality case management and allow for the safe maintenance of routine essential services.
The Technical Specialist – IPC/WASH will be responsible for technical leadership to support in strengthening of WASH infrastructure, improving infection control and prevention practices and behaviors in health care facilities to prevent the transmission of infectious diseases amongst frontline health workers impacted and engaged in districts where COVID-19 is a high risk. Additionally, liaising with GoG staff, other partners and donors regarding technical strategy, monitoring and evaluation of project milestones and targets.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide technical advice, guidance and support for the implementation of IPC/WASH at facility level
Help the GOG and frontline health workers to identify solutions to implementation challenges
Represent the project to stakeholders
Build close working relationships with key stakeholders
Provide remote and in-person coaching and mentorship to support best IPC/WASH practices in the workplace
Build the capacity of the regional and district level staff in IPC practices, quality improvement, training and supervision
Implement the appropriate supervisory, monitoring and evaluation systems for IPC/ WASH interventions at the assigned health facility
Facilitate quality and performance improvement teams and programs focused on infection prevention
Work closely with program support functions (logistics and finance departments) for IPC/ WASH program supplies and activities planning for smooth delivery of project interventions
Contribute to program reporting and related documentation needs for assigned technical areas
Participate in stakeholder meetings and deliver presentations, as needed

Required Skills or Experience
Bachelor’s degree or higher in nursing, infection diseases, public health, health promotion, water and sanitation specialization or related field, with 3 or more years of relevant work experience in public health practice
Experience planning and working in water and sanitation systems, and implementing hygiene promotion programs; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Demonstrated experience working with donor policies and guidelines and strong familiarity with reporting requirements.
Required Abilities/Skills
Familiarity with Ghana health systems and reporting structure and demonstrated ability to collaborate with government level officials to strengthen program implementation
Demonstrated ability in working and collaborating with a wide range of local and international partner organizations
Excellent skills in facilitation, team building and coordination
Excellent writing and communications skills, including demonstrated technical writing skills for publication
Ability to work effectively with diverse international teams and willingness to learn and empower others
Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks, short deadlines and intense pressure to perform
Ability and willingness to travel frequently to implementation regions and health facilities
