Job Description

Duty Station: Accra with consistent field work travels to project sites across the cocoa growing belt of Ghana.
Terms of appointment: This is Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position. Initial appointment is fixed term for two years with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon individual performance and the availability of funding.

 
The position
The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture Ghana, seeks suitable qualified Ghanaian Nationals to fill the position of RESEARCH ASSITANT on the Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) Project implemented in Ghana.
Main Duties

Work with teams of research and development partners, community-based organizations and farmers to:
Pilot Climate Smart Cocoa stepwise approach with public and private sector companies
Support development, testing and finalization of MEL data collection tools in ODK.
Support review of data collection tools, data sources, collection methods, etc.
Train Project and partner ME&L staff on ME&L requirements and data collection tools
Follow up with Partners’ ME&L staff, and trainers on MEL data generated through their activities
Contribute to MEL data quality checks on monthly basis, focusing on uploaded data
Conduct regular assessments of partners’ capacity to implement ME&L activities based on feedback/gaps on uploaded data; other feedback
Support the design, organize and undertake capacity building activities on ME&L based on existing capacity gaps identified
Contribute to project annual reporting by providing required ME&L data
Assist to update indicator matrix & ME&L plan to reflect any changes in project strategy
Contribute to the development of alternative strategies for implementation of ME&L activities per partnership (where required).
Prepare a yearly detailed calendar of ME&L activities (including capacity building, partner review sessions, etc.) with accompanying budget.
Undertake regular visits to the field to support implementation of ME&L and to identify where adaptation might be needed.
Work closely with the project communication specialist to identify results and field stories that should be highlighted in communication materials.
Assist MEL Specialist and Project Coordinators in any other duties assigned

Required Skills or Experience
Educational Qualifications
The candidate should have M.Sc. degree in Agricultural Economics, Economics, Development Management and Planning or Sociology from a reputable university.
Core Competencies

At least 3 years’ experience in project monitoring and evaluation, data processing or analysis, and advanced computer-based data management and analysis.
Experience with supporting timely and accurate project progress reporting.
Ability to organize and train partners.
Good contextual knowledge of local issues, community priorities, organizational relationships, social and cultural constraints and realities.
Good team spirit with readiness to participate as a team member in the accomplishment of duties;
Resourcefulness to operate under frequently trying and isolated field circumstances.
Ability to travel frequently across implementation areas within Ghana.
Sound mathematical and good English language skills.
Good technical report writing skills
